Calgary Children's Initiative launches new site

November 16, 2006

The Calgary Children's Initiative (CCI) officially launched a new website today aimed at helping professionals access resources, tools, and information to help children, youth, and their families to be positively engaged during "critical hours".

Critical Hours refers to the time children are not in school. This includes early mornings, weekends, holiday time and after-school hours - perhaps before parents return from work. What children and youth do in these out-of -school hours has a critical impact on their successful development: academically, socially, emotionally and physically. Hence the name: Critical Hours.

The Calgary Children's Initiative - Critical Hours Beyond School Initiative is a long-term preventative strategy engaging Calgary parents, educators, childcare providers and program providers. With partner involvement this strategy will drive innovation and help develop and implement comprehensive supports for key out-of -school time across all of the stages of child and
youth development.

This website, which with your help will be continually updated, will serve as a hub of knowledge for professionals who are addressing this issue.
