Okotoks Go2 Community Champion April 2008: Okotoks Synchro Sea Queens

Okotoks Syncho Sea Queens

Our GO2 Champions for the month of April are the Okotoks Synchro Sea Queens.  Synchronized swimming is a sport that demands endurance, flexibility and grace.  As a result it is a unique opportunity for young ladies to have fun and make friends while increasing their overall fitness

Synchronized swimming offers many benefits including:

  • Fun – we learn best when we are having a good time. Having fun helps to reduce stress thereby increasing resiliency towards depression and other forms of mental illness
  • Instilling a sense of accomplishment, which helps to build self-esteem
  • Teaching how to take risks and strive for excellence
  • Creating opportunities to learn how to work together in a team environment
  • Fostering a sense of belonging – a basic human need.
  • Encouraging the opportunity to appreciate the similarities and differences of others
  • Teaching accountability towards others
  • Increasing fitness which helps with concentration and overall well being.

The Okotoks Synchro Sea Queens offers both a competitive stream for swimmers who are interested in a challenging training programs as well as a recreational stream for athletes who just want to enjoy the sport.  Both streams participate in a water show to perform for family, friends and community members.  This year our water show will be held on April 30, and we extend an invitation to come and see what we are all about!
