Okotoks Champions - Evan and Jeremy

Okotoks is filled with community members who not only live an active and healthy lifestyle, Okotoks is filled with community members who inspire and motivate others to follow their lead.

Each month, we'll profile one of these inspirational citizens and tell their story of physical activity.

Would you like to be profiled here? Do you know a person or group who inspires others to get active? Remember, Champions come in all forms. A Champion may be of any age or sex and may even be more than one person. Schools, teams, or any other group can be Champions too.

Contact Sandy at 938-0213 to nominate your fellow citizen.

This month's Okotoks Champions are: Evan and Jeremy!

Evan Louden, 18, and Jeremy Jackins, 19, are both excellent role models for other young adults in our community; with activity being a big part of their lives.  These young men can often be seen riding their unicycles along the Okotoks pathways and just recently, they were both in the local parade for GO2.

Evan has been active in volleyball, badminton and basketball and decided at the age of 14 to teach himself to ride a unicycle.  Once he mastered the regular unicycle, he purchased a mountain unicycle that has a special tire for trails.  Evan likes to go out to Kananaskis and tackle the challenging trails there.   He says it is a great workout and that going downhill is more difficult than going uphill because you have to use your legs as brakes.  Evan embraces a healthy lifestyle and is a vegetarian and a non-smoker.  He will be going to Mount Allison University in New Brunswick this fall.

Jeremy has always been active.  He was a competitive swimmer for seven years and his skills in the water later branched off to the sport of water polo.   Jeremy started mountain biking four years ago so the mountain unicycle was a natural progression for him.  Jeremy takes pride in a healthy life style.  He is a non-smoker, works out at the gym and says that he has always been more interested in ‘doing’ rather that ‘watching’ when it comes to activity.  For the last year his activity has extended into his employment working for a local landscaper.  This fall Jeremy will go to the U of C taking Computer Science.

Evan and Jeremy are both personable, well mannered young men and great role models who embrace a healthy, active lifestyle.  They are most certainly our local GO2 Champions!
