AN OKOTOKS CHAMPION, ADELAIDE TACKE AND SHADOW
Everyday, 85 year old Adelaide Tacke can be seen on Okotok’s pathways and sidewalks with her daughter’s dog, Shadow. They walk for 2 hours everyday, no matter what the weather.
Adelaide is truly amazing! She has had two hip replacements as well as a broken foot three years ago because of osteoporosis but she has persevered through these injuries and continues to take her daily walk.
Adelaide was born in Germany, lived through World War 2 and came with her husband and two daughters to Canada in 1954, settling in Toronto and later in Calgary. About five years ago, she moved to Okotoks to her own suite in her daughter’s home. Adelaide started walking with Shadow to give him his exercise and Shadow is now 11 years old and in great shape.
Besides exercise for Shadow, Adelaide takes these long walks for fresh air, to meet other people and for her own exercise. She even looks at bending down to clean up after Shadow as just another form of exercise.
Adelaide has been active all her life and is certainly a great role model for the rest of us with her GO2 spirit. She is truly our local champion.
